Simplify

$(y^{2} - y - 12) + (y^{2} + y - 6)$

Step 1

Remove parentheses.

$y^{2} - y - 12 + y^{2} + y - 6$

Step 2

Combine the opposite terms in $y^{2} - y - 12 + y^{2} + y - 6$ .

Tap for more steps...

Step 2.1

Add $- y$ and $y$ .

$y^{2} - 12 + y^{2} + 0 - 6$

Step 2.2

Add $y^{2} - 12 + y^{2}$ and $0$ .

$y^{2} - 12 + y^{2} - 6$

Step 3

Add $y^{2}$ and $y^{2}$ .

$2 y^{2} - 12 - 6$

Step 4

Subtract $6$ from $- 12$ .

$2 y^{2} - 18$
