variable: A letter used to represent a number value in an expression or an equation.


vector: Quantity that has magnitude (length) and direction. It may be represented as a directed line segment.


Venn Diagram: A Venn diagram is often two circles (can be other shapes) that overlap. The overlapping part usually contains information that is pertinent to the labels on both sides of the Venn diagram.


vertex: The point on an angle where the two sides intersect.


vertical: Perpendicular to horizontal; up and down as opposed to left and right.


vertical angles: A pair of opposite angles that is formed by intersecting lines.


vertical line test: A way of testing a graphed relation to determine if it is a function.


vertically opposite angles: Two angles formed by the intersection of two lines. They share a common vertex but no sides or interior points.


voltage: Commonly used as a short name for electrical potential difference. Its corresponding SI unit is the volt (symbol: V ).


volume: A measurement of space, or capacity.
